Why Amazon Web Services for PureCloud?

Last week, Interactive Intelligence hosted its annual, global event interactions for users, partners, analysts and consultants. The big news was the introduction PureCloud Engage, the component of customer engagement multi- tenant platform PureCloud of the company (detailed in a previous post No Jitter Michelle Burbick).

After attending a few of the main presentations and breakout sessions, one of the common themes in the PureCloud discussions was that the solution is delivered on Amazon Web Services ( AWS) . To learn more, I sat with Glenn Nethercutt, Chief Architect for Interactive Intelligence PureCloud, responsible for the overall strategy AWS architecture : scalability, multi -region strategy, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, consistency of services, new technology evaluation, and delivery mechanisms continues . I also met Jason Alley, Director for Marketing Solutions PureCloud Engage and discussed a paper presented at the conference by an architect AWS Solution, Scott Ward .

Alley and Nethercutt emphasized three key advantages AWS provides to PureCloud:

. Load-balancing and fault tolerance: AWS has a three-tier architecture. There are 11 regions; each region is a distinct geographical area (eg, US Virginia, US West in California, the EU ( one in Ireland and one in Frankfurt ) . Each region has many isolated areas called zones of availability, and there are 30 of these. (for example, there are five for the US region) This impression is supported by many edge sites, whose content can be used for time faster response to date PureCloud was deployed in one of the United States and in Asian region; EU region (Ireland) deployment is underway, and several regions will be added over time.

. Analytics: Alley and Nethercutt two discussed the AWS back-end database systems that PureCloud builds . Data will be stored in raw format, and data aggregation will occur in real time "on the fly". Nethercutt described in detail how AWS makes various types of technologies available database, saying: "Database -wise, we are multilingual. "During the development phase, the architects PureCloud could run multiple databases simultaneously and choose the one with the best performance for a specific task. Using AWS also allows them to choose different databases for different tasks.

In the future, Nethercutt said PureCloud could also use the machine learning department Amazon, take artificial intelligence for small problems that was cost-effective in the past.

. Network Operations Center (NOC): Interactive Intelligence has had to build its own NOC for its multi-instance ( single tenant ) cloud service, CaaS, Alley said. Amazon has spent billions of dollars to build infrastructure that can be leveraged to PureCloud.

The chart below highlights one of my key points: Among the 50 services and applications that make up the AWS platform, Interactive Intelligence is using 30 or 60%, to deploy PureCloud . As explained Nethercutt, the choice of AWS was not only on virtualization of PureCloud application in the cloud, it was also on services . Using AWS enables Interactive Intelligence to focus on application development, not on the construction of public services. Nethercutt said Amazon likes to describe what their handling of " undifferentiated heavy lifting. " Finally, it should mean a shorter time to market.

Possible Downsides of Using AWS
For all its advantages, using Amazon Web Services is not without its drawbacks. AWS currently has no data center on the African continent, concern for Interactive Intelligence partners and customers in South Africa, where the company has a growing presence . Asked about this at the final session of the conference, CEO Don Brown walked that AWS provides the application logic, but not the telephone communications services. A South African customer could be supported by a region in Australia without harmful latency and communication capability delivered locally via the Interaction Edge device.

A Potentially bigger drawback is the customer or partner Who wants icts own " copy" of PureCloud to run in icts own datacenter. BOnly potentially biggest drawback is the client or a partner that wants its own "copy" of PureCloud to run in its own data center. Due to the interdependencies between PureCloud and Amazon Web Services, although possible, it would probably require a complex hybrid model deploy.ecause of the interdependencies entre PureCloud and Amazon Web Services, while possible, It Would Likely require a complex hybrid model to deploy.

These two potential disadvantages are long- term issues. In the short to medium term, Interactive Intelligence has many geographical and market segment opportunities to harvest with PureCloud.
